THE ROOM:
Simple décor, great music, and a show stopping hand-crafted mirror accentuate this naturally lit and welcoming space. Sit at a high top next to the open style kitchen, belly up to the bar with the Oyster shucker, or chill outside on the patiently-waiting-for-the-sun patio. Wherever you park your piggy toosh, you’ll quickly feel right at home at this neighbourly joint.

THE SERVICE:
It’s a mostly male staff and yes… these guys are good looking! Eager to ensure that every experience is a good one, Chewies men are always energetic and playful. Beware of the flirty sarcasm though, ladies – it’s complimentary with every meal!

THE BOOZE:
Something sparkling with your oysters is a no brainer! The muddy old fashioned Caesar, topped with a jumbo prawn, is also a good way to go. Ask about their craft beer selection or order a generously poured glass of wine. Filled to the rim, you’ll need to take your first sip –or should I say slurp-of vino sans hands. Bottoms up, piggies!

THE FOOD:
Aside from the fresh and local oysters of course, Chewies is known for Cajun-Creole items such as Gumbo and Jambalaya. But the must have in my opinion, is the Southern Fried Chicken. Whether you have it at brunch with waffles or at dinner with mash potatoes and green beans, you’ll be oinking for days!

THE COST:
Chewies Steam & Oyster Bar is a well-priced ‘south in your mouth’ Fat Pig experience. To make it even more wallet friendly, watch for their weekly Kitsilano specials: “Date Nights” feature 50% off house wines and on Tuesday nights the Fried Chicken is $5.00 off. What piggy could refuse?!
