JUNE 3 – JUNE 9: WEEKLY UPDATE

It was a busy Fat Pig week and I loved every minute of it! I tried a few new places on for size, picked up a volunteer shift at the Northwest Culinary Academy, and revisited two of my favourite North Vancouver spots: La Galleria Fine Foods and Earls Tin Palace.

Call me boring, but I've been ordering the same thing from Earls for years: one pound of hot wings and a side Caesar salad. In my piggy opinion, their Caesar dressing can't be beat and adding the celery and garlic Parmesan dip to your order of wings is an absolute must. I'm equally a creature of comfort at La Galleria Fine Foods as they make my favourite sandwich in the whole wide world! You can read all about this Award Winning deli in my latest Fat Pig post: LA GALLERIA FINE FOODS

Returning to the Northwest Culinary Academy as a volunteer was way too much fun! As a previous student of their 8 Week Beginner Program, I loved being on the other side of the stove so to speak. It was Italian night, Week 5, so Chef Tony was in his element: pasta, pasta and more pasta! If you're interested in the DO's and DON’Ts for this class, you can review my notes here: Class #5 at NWCAV

In the name of research, my quest for the best patios in the Lower Mainland continued with a visit to Pier 7 Restaurant + Bar. Located at the bottom of Lonsdale in North Vancouver, right on the water, this restaurant patio has an unobstructed view of downtown. Sip a glass of wine or sample one of their delicious cocktails while you count the skyscrapers, watch the goings on of Lonsdale Quay, and daydream of sailing off on one of the luxurious yachts parked right out front.

The last Piggy stop for the week was at Temper Pastry in Dunderave, West Vancouver. Opened approximately 6 months ago, this spot is already a local favourite. A true master of his craft, Steve Hodge has poured hours and hours of time into perfecting his recipes. Don't believe me? Try the laminated brioche or any croissant fresh out of the oven. If it doesn't knock your socks off, well… good. The more for me!

Until next week, Piggies!

Located at 25 Wallace Mews, right at the bottom of Lonsdale Avenue, this patio is the place to be. Every seat in the house has an incredible view of downtown Vancouver – go see for yourself!

Laminated Brioche

The taste and texture of this Laminated Brioche absolutely blew me away. TEMPER is easily my new favourite weekend destination.
