This week, my eating adventures started with an in-the-kitchen flop (it happens!) but ended with a “south-in-your-mouth” brunch bang and a delicious home cooked Sunday night BBQ dinner.

Chicken Pot Pie is a comfort food that I am always craving, so one night this week my girlfriend and I got to cooking! The pastry toppings on the pies looked crisp and promising when we pulled the ramekins out of the oven but it was the goodies on the inside that had missed the mark. Chicken, mushrooms, leeks, garlic and parsley sounded like a winning combination from the get-go but it definitely didn't come together in the end. Long story short, I need chicken pot pie redemption, Piggies! If you have a favourite recipe that you'd like to share, I would love to give it a shot.

Eat! Vancouver, the well established Food + Cooking Festival, was in town again this weekend, so I dropped in on Friday to check it out. With over 250 exhibitors sharing the latest in food trends, cooking demonstrations from the best in local chefs, and a variety of wine, beer and spirits seminars taking place, there was more than enough to do as an attendee. And depending on what day you chose to visit, you were also able to watch the pros cook live on the Celebrity Stage. The line-up of Chefs this year was really exciting: Rob Feenie, Chuck Hughes, Lynn Crawford, Ned Bell and Vikram Vij to name a few.

Next up, I spent the first part of Saturday night volunteering at the Vancouver International Tequila Expo located in the Hyatt Regency Hotel. All proceeds from the Trade Tasting, as well as additional drink tickets sold, went to the BC Hospitality Foundation - this Piggy's charity of choice! This sold out event had a selection of over 30 tequila and mezcal brands to try, a tequila competition that took place throughout the evening, and there were a handful of restaurants on site serving up some deliciously paired bits and bites.

The second half of Saturday night was the highlight of my week. While sipping a night cap at West on South Granville, Charles and I were lucky enough to be introduced to Chef Chuck Hughes - he just so happened to be dining there himself after a long day working at Eat! Vancouver. Having been to his restaurant, Garde Manger, during our last visit to Montreal, we were excited to be able to thank him in person for such an incredible dining experience. We chatted about his time here in Vancouver and some of his upcoming food and travel plans and of course about our next visit out to Montreal. As an uber fan, I am so happy to report that Chuck Hughes was just as nice and as friendly as one might imagine and he's certainly not too hard on the eyes!

So how did I top off this delicious Piggy week? Well with brunch of course! After a long bike ride early Sunday morning, I walked on down to Chewies Steam & Oyster Bar in Kitsilano and scarfed down a serving of their Chicken and Waffles. Well, I actually substituted the waffles for French toast this time and let me tell you, it's a change-up that bears repeating!

Well, my Sunday night BBQ dinner is calling my name and as you know, I never keep my plate waiting. Until next week, Piggies! ...

My first attempt at Chicken Pot Pie, left some room for improvement. Please send me your favourite recipe as I’m looking for some in-the-kitchen redemption!

Chef Vikram Vij on the Celebrity Stage. Can we go to Vij’s now please?!

Apparently I have a thing for Montreal boys; Meeting Chef Chuck Hughes was a blast!

Chicken and French Toast from Chewies Steam & Oyster Bar in Kitsilano. This dish is usually served with waffles, but today I decided to think a little outside the box!

Dinner at home (thanks, Charles): BBQ Pork Chops, Maui Ribs, Potatoes and Veg.
