October has arrived, Piggies - let the Feasts and Fests begin!

From beer gardens to Turkey dinners, from Haunted Houses to Wine Tastings, I’ve got a handful of delicious October events that need to go in your Piggy calendar!

First up? The EAT WELL DO GOOD Fundraiser.

On Thursday October 2nd, be sure to visit the Vancouver Art Gallery for breakfast or lunch. Or both! Volunteers from a group of local Food & Beverage companies will be on site from 7am to 3pm serving organic breakfast, lunch and snacks. ALL BY DONATION!

Donations support the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society – an organisation that sees 28,000 visitors every week. With each dollar raised, the Food Bank can buy $3 worth of food, so please be sure to come hungry.

For the full Event schedule, Breakfast and Lunch Menus check out: http://us.naturespath.com/about/movements/eat-well-do-good

And if you missed this event, don’t worry, Piggies; just consider this a friendly reminder to make a future donation! https://www.foodbank.bc.ca/

Next up, and also kicking off on Thursday October 2nd, is #HarvestHaus

Brought to you by The Social Concierge, this Oktoberfest-style event is bringing German-European culture, Northern European harvest traditions and West Coast harvest bounty to downtown Vancouver.

Running October 2nd – 5th General Admission tickets provide access to the Harvest Haus Halle: music, acrobats, artisans and more. The “Script” for each Harvest Haus sitting lasts four (4) hours during which guests will be able to purchase German delicacies and domestic and imported beers.

Spaetzle, bratwurst, and Schnitzel, Oh My! I’ll see you there, Piggies!

Trick-or-Treat, Piggies!

October may seem like a Beer month – what with all of the Oktoberfest activities going on – but let’s not forget to give our grape friends some love too! Especially BC’s TIME Estate Winery.

For the month of October, in support of #BreastCancerAwareness month, Oliver, BC’s TIME Estate Winery is proud to announce the release of The Girls Vivacious Rosé and The Girls Voluptuous Red, which give 100% of the profits to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – BC/Yukon Region.

More than 40 BCLDB stores and most private wine shops across the province will feature The Girls Rosé. Just be sure to ask for it by name. These wines will also be showcased at a breast cancer fundraiser at the Village VQA Wine Store (3536 W 41stAve & Dunbar) on Friday, October 24 from 8-10pm.

I’ll be there, Piggies and I hope you’ll come out and join me! What a wonderful cause this is.

Last but not least, and giving your tummy just enough time to digest all that Thanksgiving Turkey, Saturday October 25th is World Pasta Day. Mark your calendars now!

With over 600 shapes of pasta known to mankind, this is the perfect day to try something new. Or heck, better still – try making pasta at home. I promise that you’ll notice the difference.

If you need a little inspiration, check out my Piggy write-up on “Pasta, Pasta, Pasta.” This blog post is a recap of one of my favourite nights cooking at the Northwest Culinary Academy.
